Director of Business Development, K-12

Security, safety and health concerns at K-12 schools have been evolving significantly as our world continues to shift at an ever-faster and less predictable pace. As someone who has been in the education security market since 1994, Ron Baer probably has more insight than most into the changing landscape.

40 years in the profession of physical security, access control and asset protection plus frequent meetings with mid- and senior-level K-12 executives have helped Ron maintain a steady pulse on the wide range of needs, issues and trends facing schools today.

Along with national responsibility for leading ASSA ABLOY’s K-12 Business Development and Solution Specialists across 20 U.S. offices, he also represents the interests of districts and schools in ASSA ABLOY’s innovative product development processes.

An authority in K-12 security, it’s common to see his byline appear in thought leadership articles requested by numerous national publications. His body of work covers topics ranging from simple intelligent locking solutions that teachers can activate from inside or outside a classroom to robust attack-resistant doors, access control systems, lockdown procedure options, décor aesthetics, cautionary tales and more.

Ron and his team of serious advocates consistently urge schools and districts to take a comprehensive approach to risk assessment and well-informed security planning. As expert K-12 security consultants with a wealth of knowledge to help guide decisions, their focus is always on ensuring that stakeholders land on the most beneficial, practical and cost-effective school safety solutions instead of succumbing to pressure that can potentially lead to rash quick fixes that end up being wasteful, ineffectual and even dangerous.

With two kids and three grandchildren who have achieved success through experiencing safe learning environments, Ron is passionate about the critical importance of school security and its impact on helping students, faculty and staff thrive.
