Meet Russell Corriveau
Training Development Manager, ASSA ABLOY Academy
Russell began his career in the world of door openings in 1986 as a tool and die designer with SARGENT manufacturing. Quickly proving his mechanical prowess, he designed a number of fixtures for the company which are still in use to this day.
Driven, dedicated and disciplined, Russell took weekend and evening classes and earned his bachelor’s degree from Central Connecticut State University in 1989, resulting in a promotion to the position of Manufacturing Engineer for SARGENT’s Exit Department. One of his earliest accomplishments in that role was the programming of the company’s first 4-Axis CNC Machine used to machine most SARGENT 80 Series chassis heads.
His mechanical aptitude is only matched by his creative visual sense. To make the utmost of his spare time, he established Russell’s Photography Studio in 1990. It wasn’t long before his side business became the largest wedding photography studio in Connecticut. The studio photographed over 200 weddings in 2001 alone.
In between nuptials, he studied hard to earn a master’s in Organizational Management so he could attain the credentials to teach at the college level. That led to his position as an Adjunct Instructor at a technical college where he taught five different engineering classes ranging from Geometrical Tolerancing & Dimensioning to Computer Aided Manufacturing. Back at SARGENT as a manufacturing engineer, Russell redesigned the 80 Series mounting rail internal assembly in 1995, which is also still used today.
Russell became the company’s Mortise Lock Technical Representative serving in 2003 and 2004 as the liaison between the customer and engineering. He was then promoted to Technical Marketing Engineer. While in Marketing, Russell’s skills as a photographer were noticed and leveraged to their fullest. He continues to create images and videos for SARGENT, ASSA ABLOY and Academy Presentations to this day.
In 2010, Russell was offered the position of Training Development Manager at ASSA ABLOY Academy, "which he smartly accepted, and has not looked back since.” Initially, Russell taught only on SARGENT hardware. Now, he trains on Corbin Russwin, Norton, Rixson and Yale products. He also shares his expertise in hands-on wiring and Masterkeying.
Russell has conducted classes in diverse parts of the world over the years including Muscat, Oman, Mexico City and Edmonton, Alberta along with numerous cities throughout the U.S. As Russell stated, “Thanks to the Academy, the University, and our Door Security Solutions team, I’m proud to have presented at over 500 events to more than 5000 individuals during my time so far. I love teaching.” It doesn’t appear there will be a dull moment on his schedule anytime soon.
