Materials & Resources (MR) Credit Building Product Disclosure and Optimization – Environmental Product Declarations

“Use products that document their material ingredient optimization. Acceptable material disclosure methods include GreenScreen v1.2 Benchmarks, Cradle to Cradle certification (v2 Gold, v2 Platinum, v3 Silver, v3 Gold or Platinum), or REACH Optimization (for projects seeking the International Alternative Compliance Path).

ASSA ABLOY seeks to limit any potentially hazardous materials we use in our products, ensuring that our products are safe for the consumer. We have published HPDs to support this credit.”

Materials & Resources (MR) Credit - Building Product Disclosure and Optimization- Sourcing of Raw Materials

Use products that meet at least one of the responsible extraction criteria below for at least 25%, by cost, of the total value of permanently installed building products in the project: extended producer responsibility, bio-based materials, wood products, materials reuse, recycled content, or other USGBC approved program.

Manufacturing facilities for ASSA ABLOY Group brands are located throughout North America and can assist your projects in earning this credit.

Materials & Resources (MR) Credit - Building Product Disclosure and Optimization – Material Ingredients

Select products for which the chemical ingredients in the product are inventoried to at least 0.1% (1000ppm). Acceptable material disclosure methods include: a self-published manufacturer inventory (disclosing material name and CAS numbers, or role, amount and GreenScreen v1.2benchmarks), a Health Product Declaration (HPD) disclosing all known hazards, or, Cradle to Cradle v2 basic Level certification or Cradle to Cradle v3 Bronze Level.

ASSA ABLOY seeks to understand and transparently report the materials we use in our products, ensuring that our products are safe for the consumer. We have published HPDs for products to support this credit.

Materials & Resources (MR) Credit - Construction and Demolition Waste Management

Reduce construction and demolition waste disposed of in landfills and incineration facilities by recovering, reusing and recycling materials.

Many ASSA ABLOY products can be recycled and reused. ASSA ABLOY has a recycling program in place with many of our businesses seeking to extend responsibility for proper recycling and disposal of our products at their end of life. We strive to make durable sustainable products that can assist projects in attaining this credit.

Environmental Quality (EQ) Prerequisite Environmental Tobacco Smoke Control

Prevent or minimize exposure of building occupants, indoor surfaces, and ventilation air distribution systems to environmental tobacco smoke.

ASSA ABLOY weather-stripping products and sealants help prevent excessive leakage between units in a building, if compartmentalization of smoking areas is being pursued for a building project.

Environmental Quality (EQ) Credit - Low-Emitting Materials: Adhesives & Sealants, Paints & Coatings

Reduce concentrations of chemical contaminants that can damage air quality, human health, productivity and the environment.

ASSA ABLOY hardware products are considered Inherently Non-Emitting Materials and do not qualify for this credit. However, our doors and weatherproofing products may help contribute toward achieving this credit. Many of our doors and weatherproofing products have obtained GREENGUARD Gold certification, verifying low emitting criterion

Environmental Quality (EQ) Credit - Enhanced Indoor Air Quality Strategies

To promote occupant’s comfort, well-being and productivity by improving indoor air quality through enhanced IAQ strategies (mechanically ventilated spaces, naturally ventilated systems and mix-mode systems).

ASSA ABLOY door closers and operators ensure entryways allow self-closing doors to help prevent interior cross-contamination.

Environmental Quality (EQ) Credit - Daylights & EQ Credit Quality Views

To connect building occupants with the outdoors, reinforce circadian rhythms, and reduce the use of electrical lighting by introducing daylight into the space. To give building occupants a connection to the natural outdoor environment by providing quality views.

ASSA ABLOY profile lite kits installed on doors allow for glare controls while providing daylight. Adding glazing and sidelights to ASSA ABLOY openings will assist projects in achieving this LEED credit.

Environmental Quality (EQ) Credit Acoustic Performance

Provide workspaces and classrooms which promote occupants’ well-being, productivity, and communications through effective acoustic design.

ASSA ABLOY hardware and door closers ensure our STC rated door openings are latched and closed, reducing sound infiltration and helping LEED projects gain credit. We offer a variety of acoustical solutions for varying environments.

LEED for Schools Specific Credits

Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ) Credit 9- Enhanced Acoustical Performance

Provide classrooms that facilitates better teacher-to-student and student-to-student communications through effective acoustical design. Design the building shell, classroom partitions and other core learning space partitions to meet the Sound Transmission Class (STC) requirements of ANSI Standard S12.60-2002, Acoustical Performance Criteria, Design Requirements and Guidelines for Schools, except windows, which must meet an STC rating of at least 35. ASSA ABLOY offers a wide range of STC door solutions that meet ANSI Standard S12.20-2002 and can help LEED projects gain credit for Enhanced Acoustical Performance.

Materials & Resources Credit 3 - Sustainable Purchasing: Facility Alterations & Additions

Reduce the environmental and air quality impacts of the materials acquired for use in the upgrade of buildings. Maintain a sustainable purchasing program covering materials for facility renovations, demolitions, refits and new construction additions. Products from ASSA ABLOY Group brands can help sustainable purchasing programs meet many of the requirements to obtain this credit.

Materials & Resources Credit 9 - Solid Waste Management: Facility Alterations & Additions

Divert construction and demolition debris from disposal to landfills and incineration facilities. Redirect recyclable recovered resources back to the manufacturing process and reusable materials to appropriate sites. Many products from ASSA ABLOY Group brands can be recycled (in the case of steel products, potentially infinitely) and reused. We strive to make durable sustainable products that can assist projects in attaining this credit.
