Session #2:
Jenn DOughty and Chris GillettWhen: July 16th 2pm – 3pm EDT
Title: Streamlining the Student Move-In Process and Creating an Experience at the University of Oklahoma
Presenters: Jenn Doughty, Director of Housing and Chris Gillett, Senior System Engineer, Sooner Card
Institution: The University of Oklahoma

Description: As most campuses know, residence hall move-in is one of the most chaotic and stressful day(s) of the year. When faced with extenuating circumstances that would make move-in even worse, the OU Housing team took advantage of the opportunity to create a move-in experience. Utilizing a cruise ship style approach, complete with a staff to unload the resident’s belongings, OU turned one of the worst days of the year into an experience that has to be seen to be believed. Once OU launched the mobile credential, they further perfected the move-in experience by building a custom app that would allow for contactless check-in into StarRez, resulting in a seamless user experience when the resident used their card, phone or watch to access their residence hall.

Session #3:James Byrd and Jason Higley
When: July 22nd 2pm – 3pm EDT
Title: Securing Every Room on Campus through Automation and Integration at Wake Forest University

  • James Byrd, Director Physical Security Technology and Deacon OneCard, Wake Forest University
  • Jason Higley, Principal Engineer, Detrios, LLC

Institution: Wake Forest University

Description: Most campuses share at least two common access control challenges: programming and maintaining the ever-changing electronic lock schedules for rooms and buildings based on academic class and event schedules, and managing student access based on housing contracts. At Wake Forest University, managing these two critical tasks previously required implementing temporary work-stoppages on all non-essential tasks multiple times per year in order to devote countless hours to manual programming that required a mind-numbing attention to detail for the staff of Physical Security Technology and Deacon OneCard. As the university increased residential enrollment and moved towards renovating all classrooms with electronic locks, a breaking point was reached and a new approach was needed.

Hear the story of how WFU integrated their existing event management (EMS), housing (StarRez), and access control (OnGuard) systems with the help of a single off-the-shelf software solution. Learn how automating and streamlining these systems and processes have provided significant benefits to the entire campus community and became the front line of protection against a hurricane and a pandemic.
